We have got some spectacular artists taking part in First Thursdays - some of which are making a special trip to Christchurch to take part in the event. We are very happy to announce that international public art Duo Struan Ashby and Erica Duthie of Tape Art NZ joining us to make a one-off temporary mural.
Locally trained at Ilam School of Fine Arts, Struan and Erica have had some spectacular opportunities through their artmaking using a simple roll of tape. They have transformed the front of Te Papa, represented NZ at the Frankfurt Book fair, toured the States and honored the Student Volunteer Army in temporary tape murals.
Their work draws a crowd in in more ways than one! Make sure to stop by and chat to them as they make the work and perhaps find yourself incorporated into the art. Drawing people into fantastical worlds where they are ‘famous for a day’ is core to their ephemeral mural making.
Erica and Struan will add their own interpretation on Hollywood razzamatazz glitz to the first First Thursday as they transform the Landley Law building, opposite The Colombo at 362 Colombo St.
Keep an eye out for them from Wednesday 1 October, when they'll begin their project.
