Jonathan Smart Gallery will be open late and showing a suite of exciting new works by established aesthetic rabble-rouser and New Zealand representative at the 2005 Venice Biennale, Et Al is exhibiting beside a pair of enchanting rising art-stars - these show promise to challenge and delight!
The Uncommon Good by et al is the first show from the collective in Chch for four years. Typically, it explores aspects of global politics in its use of news pages from the New York Times, annotated in the aesthetic way for which the collective is known.
Doubles and Trebles (Reprise) is a collaborative exhibition by Hamish Coleman and Emily Hartley-Skudder, that pushes the boundaries of painting out into the realms of sculpture.
Both shows present contrasting installations, rigorous in different ways, that are a fascinating way to round out the programme for the year.
