First Thursdays is excited to have the opportunity to showcase young and emerging artists, as well as more established practitioners. Our call for proposals was sent out country-wide; and for our third artist spotlight, we welcome Wellington-based artist, Jordana Bragg into the line up!
Sunset BLVD, 2014 will be a public light projection, made with First Thursdays in mind. Referencing the classic 1950's film directed by Billy Wilder, the work will be projected onto the wall of Broker Web, next door to the bustling Night Market at 456 Colombo St.
Jordana is currently in her third year studying toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts, at Massey University Wellington. Taking influence from Pop Art aestheticism, the emergence of ‘internet art’ and ‘screen culture’, the latest light projection series produced by Bragg showcases bold compositions of flashing colour, evocative of strobe lights and neon signs. Working like a cyber space meme endlessly looping a brief segment of information which has no definable narrative structure, beginning, middle or end.
Passionate about various facets of art and culture, Jordana currently works at City Gallery, Wellington, and is a contributor to the Enjoy Public Art Gallery blog. She has recently exhibited her work as part of the Massey University Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition _I LOVE YOU / BUT I WANT MORE, at the Engine Room Gallery, Wellington - curated by Louise Rutledge.
